United By A Common Goal
For years we have had promises made by county leaders. Time goes by with nothing but the same promises and another date in the future while our public schools and public buildings crumble and our infrastructure ages and can no longer support the community. We are tired of waiting. It's going to take change. I want to bring that change.
IF NOT NOW, WHEN?
I am Bryan O’Neill and I am running for County Commissioner because I believe that the time is NOW. There are major, challenges that are facing the People of this county. Some of the issues have been known to the County for 10 to over 20 years, the schools, the courthouse and Blue Ridge Community College’s outdated and out grown facility. Other issues are the result of the changing nature of our community over the years. Workforce housing (affordable but not subsidized), good paying jobs beyond those of the tourism economy, growth that has outstripped our infrastructure and property taxes that are forcing people out of their homes. We need leaders that can think creatively to be able to address these issues while not losing those features of our community that make it so special. It's going to take change. I want to bring that change.
IF NOT NOW, WHEN?
The 3 commissioners that have been on the County Commission for up to 20 years or more own these problems, they can’t push off the blame on their predecessors. They have had years to fix these problems. We can’t let them continue to fester. There are two seats up for election. This is an opportunity to inject a fresh perspective and a breath of fresh air. These problems are not Democrat or Republican problems. They are leadership problems. It’s going to take a change of leadership to solve them. It's going to take change. I want to bring that change.
IF NOT NOW, WHEN?
I will make sure that the school bond money the voters approved is spent on the right things and in a timely manner so that our schools can no longer be compared to those in a third world country. That our courthouse is replaced by a clean modern facility where we can once again hold court. That we no longer fear that we will lose the desperately needed educational opportunities that will be lost if Blue Ridge Community College is forced to leave our county. That our teachers, first responders and other workers can find housing in our county that they can afford. I will foster an environment of cooperation between the cities and communities in our county. It's going to take change. I want to bring that change.
IF NOT NOW, WHEN?
Together for Transylvania the time is now.
